ASI Magazine Issue 4 : The ASI Mosaic: a global community

“The fact we exist is a statement we aren’t where we need to be.” The quote by Heleen Boom, Director ASI Diversity Committee, in the ‘Our Team’ feature, of her committee’s existence is an apt explanation of the need for ASI, as an association, to be open about issues concerning diversity and inclusion. The upcoming edition of ASI Magazine explores the subject through the eyes of our global sommelier community, embracing the stories of sommeliers, and other wine professionals, who have faced this firsthand.

This important edition of ASI Magazine further explores how ASI is fostering an atmosphere of inclusivity through its work in its Diversity and Ethics & Compliance Committees. To look at paths forward to a more inclusive wine world via addressing issues such as the inherent, yet sometimes unnoticed, bias of the language we use to describe wines. The discussions are led by our guest editors Elaine Chukan Brown, Caro Maurer MW, and Tšhepang Molisana and further explored by Alba Hough, Heleen Boom and Ricardo Grellet and many others.

While the issue openly discusses this timely topic, it also embraces the mosaic that is the global nature of the ASI family, showcasing a breadth of sommeliers from across the world, representing people from various backgrounds and beliefs.

The future of true diversity and inclusion begins with conversations, and ASI hopes to foster positive communication with this inspirational edition.

Highlights:
